The Human Rights Day is observed across the world on 10 December to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The first Human Rights Day was celebrated in 1950.

2. (b) Vanessa Ponce De Leon, Mexico
The winner of Miss World 2018 is Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce De Leon. Manushi Chhillar, who was Miss World 2017, crowned her successor. 118 contestants from all around the world participated in the pageant.

3. (c) 2023
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Council of the United Nations approved India’s proposal to observe the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The approval came during the 160th session of the FAO, which was held during December 3-7, 2018 in Rome.

4. (d) Preeti Saran
A former senior Indian diplomat, Preeti Saran was on December 6, 2018 elected unopposed to an Asia Pacific seat on the United Nation's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR). The UN's Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) elected Saran to the 18-member committee ‘CESCR’ for a four-year term beginning on January 1, 2019.

Kerala has become the first state in the country to have four international airports with the inauguration of the Kannur airport on December 9, 2018. Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan jointly flagged off the inaugural Air India Express flight, carrying 186 passengers to Abu Dhabi, at the airport near Mattannur town.

India has started granting visa on arrival to South Korean nationals, a move that is expected to boost inflow of tourists and business visitors. South Korea is the second country whose nationals are now given visa on arrival by India after Japan, whose citizens have been getting the privilege since March 2016.

Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) chief Upendra Kushwaha on December 10, 2018 resigned from the Union council of ministers, a day ahead of the start of the winter session and triggering a realignment of political equations in Bihar.

The United Arab Emirates has, in a landmark decision, decided to increase the representation of Emirati women in the Federal National Council to 50 per cent from the coming Parliamentary term. The move will enable the UAE women to achieve, what has been achieved by their counterparts globally in decades, in a record time.

10. (c) Mohali
The first International Conference on Sustainable Water Management began on December 10 at the Indian School of Business in Mohali, Punjab. The theme of the conference deals with promoting integrated and sustainable development and management of Water Resources.
