1. (b) Shaktikanta Das

Shaktikanta Das was on December 12, 2018 assumed charge as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made his appointment within 24 hours of Urjit Patel’s sudden resignation as RBI Governor. Das will have a three-year term.

2. (d) K Chandrasekhar Rao

The President of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party, K Chandrasekhar Rao, who led his party to a massive win in the Telangana Legislative Assembly Elections 2018, will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the state for a second straight term on December 13, 2018.

3. (b) Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has ordered a ban on the sale of online medicines by e-pharmacists across the country. The HC bench passed the judgement while hearing a PIL filed by a Delhi-based dermatologist who complained that lakhs of medicines were being sold on the internet every day without much regulation.

The Manipur Government on December 11, 2018 honoured AIBA World Women Boxing Gold medallist MC Mary Kom with the title "Meethoileima" (par excellent queen) at a function in Imphal. The state government conferred the prestigious title to the world champion in recognition of her unprecedented feat of winning the sixth gold medal in the recently concluded World Boxing Championship and her illustrious career in the field.

5. (d) Tamil Nadu

The Union Government and the Asian Development Bank on December 11, 2018 signed a loan agreement worth 31 million dollars in New Delhi to develop tourism and boost Jobs in Tamil Nadu. The project is expected to improve the tourism infrastructure in Tamil Nadu and also help the state in preserving its natural and cultural heritage.

6. (c) Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to establish an umbrella university to control all the medical and dental colleges and nursing institutions in the state. The university will be named after former Prime Minister, late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in October at his country's Istanbul consulate, has been named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" alongside other persecuted journalists. Other journalists to receive the honour include Philippines journalist Maria Ressa, Reuters’ reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, who are currently imprisoned in Myanmar.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs launched a Twitter account to spread awareness about cyber crimes and normal precautions to be taken. The Twitter handle, ‘@CyberDost’ is aimed at enhancing people's basic knowledge about cyber crimes and precautions to be taken for prevention.

Rajiv Mehrishi, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, was appointed as Vice-Chair of UN Panel of Auditors for the year 2019. The United Nations Panel of Auditors consists of External Auditors of the United Nations and its agencies.

11. (a) China

The armies of India and China started the 7th edition of joint military exercise ‘Hand-in-Hand 2018’ on December 11, 2018 at Chengdu in China. The purpose of the joint military drill is to improve the capabilities of the two armies in fighting terrorism and promote mutual understanding.

12. (b) Japan

Japan on 12 December selected the Chinese character for ‘disaster’ as its defining symbol for 2018, a year that saw the country hit by deadly floods, earthquakes and storms. Floods across Japan in July 2018 caused more than 200 deaths and nearly evacuation of 9 million people. In the same month, 150 people died due to heat wave and 80000 people were hospitalised.
