1. (a) Haryana
The state government of Haryana has announced that it would be installing 10 lakh smart meters in the state to solve various complications faced by the power distribution sector. The project has been initiated under intensive relations between Japan and India and the Prime Minister's Make in India Programme.
2. (c) Himachal Pradesh
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur has launched the ‘Shakti’ app for women’s safety in the state. The app, which comes with a panic button, was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the Himachal Pradesh government. Shaking the device would trigger the app to send its location through GPS. Once triggered, the app would automatically send a message to the nearest police control room.
3. (b) Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been nominated for Padma Bhushan award 2018, the third-highest civilian award. President Ram Nath Kovind would be conferring the award to the cricketer and other 84 awardees.
4. (b) Kerala
The Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters, one of the largest and most polyphonic cultural events would begin in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala from February 2, 2018. The event would witness participation from over 150 writers from both India and abroad.

President Ram Nath Kovind launched the Pulse Polio programme for 2018 by administering polio drops to children less than five years old, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on January 27, 2018. More than 17 crore children of less than five years across the country will be given polio drops as part of the drive of Government of India to sustain polio eradication from the country.
6. (c) Kolkata
Kolkata has become the first Indian metropolitan city to get a floating market. The market is located on a water body with boats doubling up as shops. It was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on January 24, 2018.
7. (d) Vijay Gokhale
Vijay Keshav Gokhale, a senior diplomat of the External Affairs Ministry, will take charge as the next Foreign Secretary on January 29, 2018. He would be succeeding S Jaishankar, who is retiring from the post. The 1981-batch Indian Foreign Service officer is currently serving as the Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
8. (c) Cambodia
India signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Cambodia on January 27, during the state visit of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen to India. Hun Sen was in India for the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit, following which he attended India’s 69th Republic Day celebrations along with other ASEAN leaders.
9. (a) Roger Federer
World number two Roger Federer won the Men's Singles title at the Australian Open in the summit clash in Melbourne on January 28, 2018. He defeated sixth-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia in five sets of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
10. (d) Assam
The Assam Assembly will introduce digital budget in its next session, doing away with the traditional printed booklet form practice. Apart from digital budget, the Assembly session will also see exclusive 'Members Hour', a year-long calendar, 'Best Legislator Award', setting up of a Pay Commission for MLAs' salary and fellowships for research work on history of the Assembly.
