The UK scientists on 16 January 2012 discovered a new gene in maize plants, called Meg 1. The gene regulates the transfer of nutrients from the plant to the seed. It could increase the crop yields and improve food security.
The Scientists from the University of Warwick and Oxford University identified the gene.
