Union Government appointed Dineshwar Sharma as Director of Intelligence Bureau

Dineshwar Sharma, Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau, appointed as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) by the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 December 2014. He will take charge of the office from 1 January 2015 and will have two-year tenure.

Sharma will succeed Syed Asif Ibrahim who will retire on 31 December 2014. However, before taking charge of Director of IB, Sharma will first serve as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with immediate effect.


Dineshwar Sharma is a 1979 batch IPS officer from Kerala cadre and was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau before this appointment.

Ibrahim, a 1977 batch IPS officer from Madhya Pradesh cadre, was the first Muslim to be appointed as Director of IB and had taken over from Nehchal Sandhu.
