UP Government to Open Convenience Stores at 6 in Aqua Line Metro Stations

The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to open convenience stores and kiosks at 6 metro stations. NMRC is also inviting applications to hire technical and non-technical labor on a contract basis through the RFP structure.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to open convenience stores and kiosks at 6 metro stations. This decision of the government will enhance the travel quality of the commuters who travel daily in the metro. 

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to open these stores and kiosks in the commercial spaces near the ground floor staircase at these stations. According to officials, the project aims to improve amenities at Metro stations and boost the Noida Metro Rail Corporation's (NMRC) profit margins.

“All these vacant commercial spaces are located near the staircases on the ground floors of the respective metro stations, and preparations are now underway for their rejuvenation. To complete this process and to give a concrete shape to the process of construction, operation and licensing of convenience stores, applications have been invited through a Request for Proposal (RFP),” said the officials.

Furthermore, measures are being implemented to recruit personnel in order to ensure the smooth functioning of different metro stations. The statement issued by the UP government also noted that the administration is taking steps to hasten the completion of the remaining portions of the state's metro rail expansion project.

The government has made a list of six metro stations where it has decided to build stores and kiosks. The application process for the same is already in progress. The list of selected metro stations includes:

Applications Are Being Invited

Applications are being invited by the NMRC via a Request for Proposals (RFP). The bids must be submitted by July 3rd. NMRC is also inviting applications to hire technical and non-technical labor on a contract basis through the RFP structure. 

In order to improve the robustness and efficiency of Noida Metro station operations, officials will choose an agency that will hire people for a variety of roles, including unskilled, semi-skilled, and highly trained labor; clerical admin cadre; junior engineers; and maintainers.

Tenure of the Licenses

As per the authorised officials, these convenience stores' licenses would be valid for a period of five years. However, there will be an obligatory one-year lock-in term, with a potential three-year extension depending on the performance.

Currently, only 310 square meters will be turned into convenience stores as part of the project over the chosen six stations.

What did the Tender Document Say?

The tender released by the government contained detailed information regarding this project. It said, “Applicants seeking a license agreement must provide detailed plans of the vacant commercial spaces, including sectional and elevation plans, architectural front elevation, structural stability certificates, quality and structural safety reports, work safety protocol, and details regarding electric power, sanitary, and water supply.”

The Noida-Greater Noida Metro Rail Corridor, commonly called the Noida Metro Corridor, is a 29.7-kilometer stretch with 21 metro stations. It extends to the Greater Noida depot station from Sector 51.
