Vijay L Kelkar, the Chairman of the 13th Finance Commission, resigned from the Tata Chemicals Board on 1 April 2015. He was appointed on the Board of Tata Group firm on 30 May 2012.
He is an Indian economist and academician who served as the Chairman of the Thirteenth Finance Commission constituted by the President of India. He also served as Advisor to the Union Ministry of Finance (2002–2004), and is known for his role in economic reforms in India.
He also served as Finance Secretary, Government of India 1998–1999, and in 1999 he was nominated as Executive Director of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka on the board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, in January 2011.
