Any income earned from the transfer of virtual digital assets shall be taxed at a rate of 30 percent, announced FM Nirmala Sitharaman during her Union Budget 2022 speech.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the government's intent to introduce a digital rupee in her Union Budget 2022-23 speech on February 1, 2022. The Finance Minister announced that the digital currency or digital rupee will be introduced by the central bank of India using blockchain and other technologies.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2021-22 in the Lok Sabha on January 31, 2022. The Economic Survey 2022 projects India's GDP growth to be between 8-8.5% in the Fiscal Year 2022-23.
