The Zombie fire is a fire that is leftover from the previous growing season that can burrow into the rich organic material beneath the surface that is made up of carbon-rich peat and smoulder under the snowpack throughout the frigid winter. When the weather warms, the fire reignites and refuses to die, as per a study by scientists from the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado in the United States.
