1. (b) Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has launched a new currency called ZiG (short for Zimbabwe Gold) amid the country's long-running currency crisis. It has been launched in electronic form. This is the sixth time since 2009 that a new currency has been launched in the country. Zimbabwe is a South African country, its capital is Harare.

2. (d) Namibia

NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has signed an agreement with the Bank of Namibia (BoN) to develop a UPI-like instant payment system. This agreement has been made to promote digital payments in Namibia.

3. (b) Yuvraj Singh

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed legendary former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh as the brand ambassador of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Earlier, the ICC appointed Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as Men's T20 World Cup 2024 brand ambassadors. It is noteworthy that the T20 World Cup will be organized under the joint hosting of West Indies and USA.     

4. (b) Vaishali Ramesh Babu

The International Chess Federation has awarded the title of Grandmaster to India's young chess player Vaishali Ramesh Babu. Vaishali is the third Indian woman Grandmaster after Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli. Vaishali had achieved the 2500 ELO points required for Grandmaster in the Llobregat Open tournament in Spain last year.

5. (a) Krishna Swaminathan

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan assumed charge as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on 01 May 2024. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 87. He is an expert in communications and electronic warfare. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla.     

6. (a) Axis Bank

Axis Bank has recently reappointed Amitabh Chaudhry as the MD and CEO of the bank. The Axis Bank board has appointed Chaudhry for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2025. This will be his second extension of three years. Chaudhary joined the bank as MD and CEO in 2019. Prior to this, he was the MD and CEO of HDFC Life.

7. (d) Yakshagana

Famous Yakshagana singer Subrahmanya Dhareshwar passed away at the age of 67. He was famous as 'Bhagavad Shrestha' for his wonderful voice. Subrahmanya Dhareshwar had served in the field of Yakshagana for 46 years. Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form famous in the coastal districts of Karnataka. This folk dance is similar to the Theyyam art form of the neighbouring state of Kerala.   

8. Himachal Pradesh

SJVN Limited has commissioned India’s first multipurpose (heat and power) green hydrogen pilot project at the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station at Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. The project will also generate electricity using green hydrogen and a 25 kW fuel cell.    

9. (b) Solomon Islands

Jeremiah Manele has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Solomon Islands located in the South Pacific. Jeremiah Manele got 31 votes in the voting process involving 49 MPs.  

10. (d) Namibia
