The voting for fifth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 was held on May 6, 2019 in 51 constituencies spread over seven states. The polling was held for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, 7 each in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, 5 in Bihar and 4 in Jharkhand. In Jammu and Kashmir, polling was held in Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag and Ladakh constituencies.

The Supreme Court on May 7, 2019 rejected the review petition filed by 21 opposition parties seeking 50 percent verification of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) during counting of votes in Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The petition was filed after the conclusion of third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 by leaders of 21 Opposition political parties led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

The Supreme Court has set aside the order of the Patna High Court, in which it had ruled that contract teachers in the state are entitled to a salary that is at par with the regular permanent teachers. The 3.5 lakh contractual teachers had demanded that they should also be given the same salary and benefits as the regular teachers as they were doing the same work and had the same educational qualification.

The Supreme Court has granted time extension to the Ayodhya mediation panel to come up with an amicable solution in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case till August 15, 2019. The decision was taken by a five-judge constitution bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer.
