Agriculture: Growth Concerns
Major agricultural growth concerns are as follows:
1. Although growth rate in the field of agriculture has constantly been less than the entire growth rate of economy, the gap between the expansion of agriculture & non- agriculture sector began to expand since year 1981 - 82, because of speeding up in the industrial growth & the growth of service sectors.
2. The mounting gap between agriculture & non - agriculture sectors was most famous during the 10th Plan. Whereas the overall Gross Domestic Product increased at the rate of 7.8 % per annum, the agriculture sector listed a growth rate of only 2.3% per annum.
3. There has been a severe delay in agricultural growth during the 9th and 10th Plans period with the rate of expansion in this sector slowing down to less than 2.5% per annum.
