Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Dwarka Expressway on March 11, 2024, in Sector-25, Dwarka. It is India’s first elevated urban expressway. This sixteen-lane expressway has been built to improve traffic conditions between Delhi and Gurugram. The expressway is 27 kilometres long and is built with an approximate cost of Rs. 7,500 crores. Regarding the inauguration, the Delhi Traffic Police uploaded a post on X, informing the citizens of Delhi NCR of traffic curbs and regulations in the region.

Dwarka Expressway: Route Map
The 27-kilometer-long Dwarka Motorway project (NH 248-BB) will connect Mahipalpur (Shiv Murti) in Delhi to Kherki Dhaula via New Gurgaon (Gurugram) in Haryana.
This project began as the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) in 2006 and was transferred to NHAI in 2016. The motorway is being built by J Kumar and Larsen & Toubro and will include over 20 flyovers/bridges, 2 rail overbridges/underpasses, 11 vehicle underpasses, 20 subterranean pedestrian crossings and a 2.5m wide cycle/bike path.

Dwarka Expressway: Project Cost
The 27-kilometres-long expressway has been built with an approximate cost of Rs. 7,500 crore. Planned in 2006, the project finally finished in 2024, with PM Modi inaugurating the expressway at Sector-25 in Dwarka.
Dwarka Expressway: Toll Rates
The exact toll rates of the Dwarka Expressway have not been officially announced yet. However, according to media reports, here are the expected toll rates for single journeys:
- Car/Van/Jeep: Rs. 80
- Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV): Rs. 115
- 3 Axle Vehicle: Rs. 235
- Bus/ Truck: Rs. 235
Dwarka Expressway: Important Details
- Dwarka Expressway is India's first elevated urban expressway, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram.
- The Haryana section comprises two segments – from the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2 km) and from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula (Cloverleaf Interchange) (8.7 km).
- It is the first elevated urban expressway with eight lanes and a single-pillar flyover, with a combination of multi-level interchanges, tunnels, underpasses, at-grade road sections, and elevated flyovers.
- It has the longest (3.6 kilometres) and widest (total sixteen-lanes) urban road tunnel in India.
- Connects Dwarka Sectors – 88, 83, 84, 99, and 113 with Sector-21 and the proposed Global City in Gurugram.
- Dwarka Expressway is equipped with an advanced safety mechanism with a fully automated toll system.
- It has an estimated consumption of 2 lakh MT of steel and 20 lakh cubic metres of concrete.
