Farmers protesting in Delhi is not a new incidence. Approximately two years ago, farmers stepped on the road to put forward their unmet demands in NCT. On February 12, three Union Ministers met the farmers in Chandigarh for a round of talks.
It was on February 13, when groups of farmers began their march to New Delhi. The march was intended to bring to the awareness of the government the demands which these farmers have been demanding for a long period of time.
One of these demands is to incorporate a legal guarantee for the purchase of crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP). The farmers are also demanding for a farm loan waiver.
The talks between the Union government and the farmers
As of now, there have been four rounds that have been held between farmer leaders and the government. However, the talks have not been able to conclude anything. On February 18, the government offered to secure a total of five crops on MSP by coming into a contract for a period of five years. However, the offer by the government was rejected by the protesting farmers.

The demands of the farmers
One of the most significant issues the protesting farmers wish to throw light on is the fact that there no law on the MSP has bee enacted as of now. Moreover, the farmers argue that the Union government is perhaps ignoring to their demands even after repeated appeals.
The MSP stands as the price at which the government promises to secure agricultural produce for farmers.
As per studies, not many farmers in India get advantaged from MSPs. Farmers are of the view that despite the government promised to cater to the demands in the protests earlier, there hasn't been any fast progress on the commitments made to the farmers.
