Every year, before the start of India's most popular and successful domestic sports league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), players are auctioned off. The auction is one of the most important events before the league begins. It functions as a reshuffle for the teams in the league. The players are placed up for auction, and the bidding begins.
Teams that desire the player on auction must offer the highest price if that player is to join their roster.

Before the auction starts, all 10 teams in the IPL release some players to free up their rosters. This year, for the 17th edition of the India Premier League 2024, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has revealed that there are 333 players on auction. Out of which, 214 cricketers are Indians and 119 are overseas cricket players. 116 of them are capped, whereas 217 are uncapped.
The IPL 2024 auction is set to take place today, December 19, 2023, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.

IPL 2024 Auction: Date and Time
The auction for the 17th edition of the IPL 2024 is scheduled for December 19, 2023 (Tuesday). It will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. The auction will start at 11:30 a.m. (local time in Dubai) or 1:00 p.m. (Indian Standard Time).
