• Clayey and fertile Maharashtra, Gujarat and

• Suitable for growing cotton, wheat, linseed, jowar and gram
3. Red
• Red in colour and less Chhotanagpur Plateau, fertile Orissa, East Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu
4. Laterite
• Red in colour and coarse Western Coastal regions,
• Not useful for Chhotanagpur Plateau, agriculture but for Tamil Nadu and Orissa building material
5. Mountain
• Consist of pebbles and stones Himalayan regions
• Not very fertile
6. Desert
• Contains large quantity of sand West Rajasthan
• Infertile
