Legendary actor Nana Patekar passed away at 75 in Goa following a cardiac arrest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, and prominent political leaders condoled the loss, while Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed that the actor will receive a state funeral.

Indian cinema lost a legend on Thursday morning of October 8th 2026. Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at 75 in Goa following a sudden cardiac arrest. 

News of his death sparked an immediate wave of grief across the country. And Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, President Droupadi Murmu, and union ministers paid their condolences via their social handles. 

Nana Patekar is famous for his work in films like Krantiveer and Parinda. He has a legacy of acting, army work, and drought-relief efforts. 

So in recognition of his contributions to society and culture over many years Maharashtra Minister of Cultural Affairs Ashish Shelar said that he will be given a state funeral.

Nana Patekar Accorded State Funeral Following Demise in Goa

The actor suffered a cardiac episode at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, during the early hours of October 8. According to Dr Shekhar Salkar from Manipal Hospital emergency medical teams delivered CPR for nearly 45 minutes but he was declared dead at 5:20 AM.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, confirming the protocol, announced on X that the state government decided to conduct his last rites with full state honors. It is an attempt to recognise his lifelong contributions to Marathi theatre and Hindi cinema.

What is Nana Patekar Humanitarian Legacy

In addition to his performance talents Patekar made a mark with his social initiatives in rural India.

Nana established Naam Foundation in 2015 which is a trust organization that he co founded with Makarand Anaspure. This foundation collected many crores to build reservoirs for water and to help the drought-stricken farmers in Maharashtra.

Patekar was also a soldier in Maratha Light Infantry during the 1999 Kargil War. He even retired as an honorary Lieutenant Colonel.

The death of Nana Patekar means that Indian society has lost one of its greats who managed to blend artistic brilliance with dedication to public service.
