The 2024 Olympics are about to see its dusk with the closing ceremony in Paris this Sunday.

It was on July 26, Friday, when the Olympics officially kickstarted this year. August 11 is the last day of the athletic competition, and also the closing ceremony day. At 2 p.m. ET a parade of athletes and flags willl commence in the Stade de France. Here we unveil all the details and highlights of the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony!

First things first, the date and time

The closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympics is scheduled to be held on August 11, at 3 p.m. ET or 9 p.m. CEST.

The ones residing in the Central Daylight time zone who wish to view the closing ceremony should tune in at 2 p.m. If you are on the Mountain Daylight time zone, the event kicks off at 1 p.m. For the Pacific Daylight time zone, the ceremony will start at noon.

 

The athletic events

On the closing ceremony day, there are several athletic competitions held as well. 

The athletic competitions are:

  • Women's modern pentathlon
  • Cycling
  • Women's marathon
  • Women's basketball
  • Men's handball
  • Women's volleyball
  • Women's weightlifting

According to Olympics, the very first closing ceremony of the modern Olympic Games and the ones today are very different.

The Olympics closing ceremony have many key components. Firstly, the head of state of the country that is hosting the Olympics steps in, along with the International Olympic Committee president. After that, the national anthem of the host nation is sung or played as the flag of the nation is raised.

There are several other traditional elements often found in the closing ceremony, such as a parade of athletes, a parade of flags, and more. Next, the Olympic flag is handed over to a representative of the city that will be hosting the Olympics in four years. 

Additionally, a few final medals are also handed over at the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony is also called as "Records."

In the end of the closing ceremony, the Olympic flame is set off.

 

Finally, who all are set to perform at the 2024 Olympic closing ceremony?

The 2024 Olympic closing ceremony will witness performances from Snoop Dogg, H.E.R., Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Billie Eilesh.

"This is the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA," expressed Casey Wasserman, the LA28 chairperson. "We are thrilled to feature the very best of LA with local artists and are grateful to Billie, H.E.R., the Chili Peppers and Snoop for their collaboration on what will be an incredible show to a global audience that will give fans a taste of what's to come in 2028," the man added.

Organizers like the Stade de France, the national stadium of France, would be turned into a huge concert hall. As per reports, there will be more than 100 performers, dancers, circus artists, and acrobats at the closing ceremony.

"We want to celebrate, but consciously. This moment of celebration will also be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Olympic Games in our society," the artistic director of the closing ceremony, Thomas Jolly said.
