Why have some states declared a “Dry Day” in the country?

The consecration ceremony is a sacred event for the Hindus. In such a case, a dry day will make sure that sanctity of such an important event is maintained. The purpose is also to prevent inconveniences that can be caused by intoxicated people.
Declaring a dry-day also encourages cultural respect. Alcohol consumption may disrespect the religious sentiments linked to the big religious event and thus, a dry day will make sure that these religious sentiments are well respected.
Additionally, the ceremony will be involving large gathering. A day when no alcohol will be sold will decrease the chances of public disturbance, ensure public order, and guarantee a smooth ceremony.
What all states are set to declare a dry day on January 22? Check the list
The Indian states that will be declaring a dry day on January 22 are:
- Uttarakhand: The first one in the list is the state of Uttarakhand. The state is known for its deep spiritual significance, and thus, encouraging people to abstain from drinking on January 22 is the state’s way of showing deep respect to the big religious event.
- Assam: Himanta Biswa Sharma, the Chief Minister of Assam announced the dry day on January 22 to show reverence to the Ram Mandir Inauguration moment.
- Rajasthan: The state of Rajasthan aims to promote public order and shows its respect to the huge religious event by declaring a dry day on January 22.
- Uttar Pradesh: The state of Uttar Pradesh too chooses to show its strong reverence to Lord Rama by declaring a dry day on January 22.
- Chhattisgarh: Finally, alcohol will not be sold in Chhattisgarh as well on January 22 as the day marks the much-awaited inauguration ceremony of Ram Mandir in India.
