Ross Taylor Retirement: Celebrated New Zealand batter Ross Taylor announced his retirement from International Cricket, ending his 17-year cricket career. 

The ongoing home season against Bangladesh will be his last Test series while his last ODI appearance will be against Australia in February 2022 and Netherlands at home ground in March 2022.

Ross Taylor Biography: Birth, Parents and Education

Ross Taylor was born on 8 March 1984 to Neil Taylor and Ann in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. Ross Taylor's mother hails from Samoa Village of Saoluafata while his father is from New Zealand. His full name is Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor. Taylor is an alumnus of Wairarapa College and Palmerston North Boys High School. 

Ross Taylor Wife and Children 

Ross Taylor married Victoria Jayne Brown in 2011. The couple gave birth to three children-- Jonty Taylor
 and Mackenzie Taylor. The name of the third child is unavailable in the public domain. 

Lesser Known Facts About Ross Taylor

1- Ross Taylor has captained the New Zealand cricket team for all formats.

2- He is the first cricketer to play 100 matches in all three formats of international cricket. 

3- He scored maiden ODI century against Sri Lanka in 2006. However, his 128* runs could not help New Zealand win the match. 

4- He scored 100 off 81 balls against Australia in March 2010, becoming the first-ever New Zealander to do so.

5- He scored 290 runs against Australia in November 2015, breaking a 111-year record. 

6- He is the fourth cricketer in the world after Vinod Kambli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sanath Jayasuriya to smash a century on his birthday. 

7- He sticks his tongue out every time he hits a century. This is because his children love seeing their dad doing that. 

8- His childhood dream was to become a farmer.

Ross Taylor Cricket Career

Before starting his career as a cricketer, Ross Taylor played Hockey which is said to have helped him master the slog sweep shot, making him a dominant leg side batsman in cricket. 

One Day International (ODI) Debut

Ross Taylor made his international cricket debut on 1 March 2006 with an ODI match against West Indies. After  Murphy Su'a, Taylor is the second male player of Samoan descent to play for the New Zealand cricket team. New Zealand won the match by 91 runs wherein Taylor scored only 15 runs.

Twenty20 International (T20I) Debut

He made his T20 debut on 22 December 2006 at Sky Stadium against Sri Lanka. He made only 21 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed by Muttiah Muralitharan. The match was won by Sri Lanka by 18 runs. 

Test Debut 

Ross Taylor made his Test debut against South Africa on 8 November 2007 at The Wanderers Stadium. He scored 15 runs off 28 balls. South Africa won the Test Match by 358 runs. 

Indian Premier League (IPL) Debut

New Zealand batter made his IPL debut on 20 April 2008 at Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai Indians (MI). He was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
