The national science agency of Australia has finished its initial checking of a "weather service" for water quality in the Spencer Gulf, South Australia. This area provides significantly to the seafood of the country. The agency, named CSIRO, holds plans to make use of this technology in local seafood farms.
The AquaWatch Australia Mission of CSIRO amalgamates information from satellites and water sensors prior to applying artificial intelligence and computer models to offer water quality forecasts and monitoring in real time.
The Spencer Gulf test site stands as the very first one in Australia to showcase the AquaWatch technology works. This seems to be a huge milestone touched by pairing up with the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and the SmartSat CRC.
Dr. Nagur Cherukuru, a senior scientist at CSIRO expressed that the focus of the team has now shifted to gather information to the region's aquaculture industry. This could warn them of hazardous marine incidents like algal blooms even before they happen.
Dr. Cherukuru stated that the Spencer Gulf is known as "Australia's seafood basket" for a specific reason.
He further clarified that the aquaculture of the area is going to provide for seafood for thousands of Aussies in the coming holidays, with the production of the local industry touching $238 million in a year.
Dr. Cherukuru stated that the team is contacting the industry so they become adopters of AquaWatch, which will further make it possible for them to forcast water quality.

Dr. Mark Doubell, an oceanographer from SARDI stated that the partnership of AquaWatch with CSIRO greatly improved the water quality monitoring required to help with the sustainable growth of aquaculture in the area.
The oceanographer expressed that this real-time information and enhanced satellite observations on the quality of water gives additional information which further helps the operational oceanographic models existing for enhanced ecologically sustainable use.
