Transparency International has released its 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), offering insights into the perceived levels of public sector corruption across 180 countries and territories. The CPI assigns scores ranging from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean) to each nation, providing a benchmark for evaluating corruption worldwide.
Key Findings of the 2024 CPI
The 2024 CPI report highlights that corruption remains a significant global issue. While 32 countries have made notable strides in reducing corruption since 2012, a staggering 148 countries have either stagnated or experienced worsening corruption levels during the same period. The global average score has remained stagnant at 43, with over two-thirds of countries scoring below 50. This means that approximately 85 percent of the world’s population, nearly 6.8 billion people, live in countries where corruption significantly undermines human rights and destroys lives.
The Least Corrupt Nations
For the seventh consecutive year, Denmark leads the CPI with a score of 90, underscoring its reputation for a clean public sector. Finland (88) and Singapore (84) closely follow, while New Zealand (83), Luxembourg (81), Norway (81), Switzerland (81), Sweden (80), Netherlands (78), and Australia (77) also rank among the top 10 least corrupt nations.
