Father's Day 2024

Every year on the third Sunday of June, we celebrate Father's Day, a day dedicated to honouring the incredible men in our lives—fathers, grandfathers, and father figures. It's a time to show our appreciation for their love, guidance, and unwavering support.

It's a time to express our deep appreciation for everything they've done for us, for the countless sacrifices they've made, and for the way they've shaped who we are today.

What is the Date of Father's Day 2024?

Father's Day in 2024 falls on the third Sunday of June. Since June has five Sundays this year, Father's Day lands on the last one, making it  Sunday, June 16th.  This is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the special men in your life who have played a paternal role.

According to the White House, “NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, 1972, as amended (36 U.S.C. 109), do hereby proclaim June 16, 2024, as Father’s Day.”

What is the History of Father's Day?

The credit for Father's Day is generally given to Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Spokane, Washington. In 1909, while attending a church service about the newly established Mother's Day, Dodd, inspired by her own father who had single-handedly raised her and her siblings, felt compelled to create a similar day to honour fathers. With the support of local religious leaders, the first Father's Day celebration was held in Spokane on June 19th, 1910.

The History.Com mentions: “A Spokane, Washington, woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children raised by a widower, tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. She went to local churches, the YMCA, shopkeepers and government officials to drum up support for her idea, and she was successful: Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day on June 19, 1910.”
