Delhi School Closure: Delhi Government has readied a plan shut-down all schools and educational institutions in the national-capital yet again, if the COVID-19 positivity rate in Delhi rises above 0.5%. Media reports have confirmed that the rising concerns around the Omicron cases in Delhi have forced the government to consider closure of schools to ensure safety of the students. Along with school closures, the plan will also see other curbs and restrictions come into effect in line with the four-stage Graded response Action Plan (GRAP). Delhi schools were shut earlier this month due to the increase in the pollution level in the National Capital Region (NCR).
On Saturday, Delhi reported a total of 249 new coronavirus cases and a 38 per cent jump over the previous day. The recent report suggests that Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi Government has the limit of 1500 cases in 7 days or 500 patients are admitted to oxygen beds within a week, as the benchmark to increase the curbs and restrictions.
Yellow Alert in Delhi after Positivity Crosses 0.50%
As per reports available on Saturday – 25th December, the overall positivity rate in Delhi stood at 0.45%, which is the critical stage as per epidemiologists. On Sunday – 26th December, the positivity rate stood at 0.55%, following which the state-government had announced a night curfew between 11 pm and 5 am starting Monday. As per the state government’s four-stage Graded response Action Plan (GRAP), once the case positivity number crosses 0.50% and settles above it for two consecutive days, ‘Yellow Alert’ will be issued under the As part of the Yellow Alert, several restrictions will be put-in place in Delhi including Night curfew, closure of schools and colleges, and shops of non-essential items, and halved seating capacity in metro trains.
