Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will be inaugurating the IIT Kharagpur Agri-Food Techathon 2021 today - January 25, 2021. The inauguration will be conducted at 2 PM today in association with NABARD. The IIT Kharagpur Agri-Food Techathon 2021 is being conducted to promote the participation of youth in India for innovation and entrepreneurship in the different domains of the Agri-Food sector.
Foundation for the Agri-Business Incubation Centre to be conducted
The Foundation for the Agri-Business Incubation Centre will also be conducted at the inaugural event which will be carrying the mandate to incubate innovative ideas in the agriculture and food technology domain to create Agro-Pressures. The online test fest is being conducted at the national level; from January to March 2021 with participation from over 750 university/college students, entrepreneurs, and rural youth from across the country between 20 to 25 years with a diverse academic background.
While speaking about the initiative, Professor VK Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur stated that while India is moving fast towards automation and digitization, there is a need to complement it with automation in rural livelihood and farm sector and warrant uniform progress. The director further pointed out that in order to achieve the goal that the institution is reaching out to the talented youth of the country through the Agri-Food Techathon.
Students to exhibit qualities
The platform will also be enabling the students to exhibit and depict their creativity, problem-solving, and prototyping-skills in Agriculture and Food Technology which will lead to indigenous product development, employment generation, and fulfillment of the promise of the institution towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Close to 30 teams with high potential will be selected for a formal association with AIBC, IIT Kharagpur. The students will be offered assistance in the form of Technology and Business Development Mentorship, Research and Development Support, Laboratory/ Workshop// Pilot Plant access, and Funding opportunities through potential investors/ accelerators.

About Agri-Food Techathon 2021
The Agri-Food Techathon 2021 is conducted by the Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, Centre for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technologies, and Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship in association with NABARD.
