The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced significant changes to the NEET 2025 exam pattern, reverting it to the pre-COVID format. The optional questions introduced during the pandemic have been removed, and the total number of questions has been reduced from 200 to 180, all of which are now compulsory.
NEET 2025: What’s New?
- 180 questions in total:
- 45 questions in Physics
- 45 questions in Chemistry
- 90 questions in Biology
- Duration reduced: Candidates will now have 180 minutes (3 hours) instead of 200 minutes to complete the test.
- No optional questions: The Section B introduced during COVID-19 has been eliminated.
NEET 2025: Marking Scheme
- +4 marks for every correct answer.
- -1 mark for every incorrect answer.
- Approximately 1 minute per question, highlighting the importance of time management.
NTA stated, “The question paper and exam duration have been aligned with the pre-COVID format to ensure uniformity and simplicity.”
NEET 2025: Push for Online Mode
The decision to conduct NEET 2025 in the traditional pen-and-paper mode has raised concerns. Medical professionals have suggested moving to an online format, citing advantages such as:
- Faster result processing
- Reduced evaluation errors
- Elimination of logistical delays
Experts, including members of FAIMA, emphasized that an online mode would ensure greater transparency, fairness, and security in the examination process. Concerns about the traditional system, including issues like the NEET 2024 paper leak, were also raised.
