The Goa state government has decided to close down the schools and colleges in the state until January 26, 2022, amidst the rising COVID cases in the state. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who also chaired the Task Force meeting on COVID when speaking to the media stated that the government will also impose a night curfew in the state.
According to reports from Task Force member Shekhar Salkar, Goa has reported a 10.7 percent COVID positivity rate and it has been decided that offline sessions for students from classes 8 and 9 in schools will be closed until January 26, 2022. He further stated that students of classes 11 and 12 will have to attend schools to take the vaccination and once vaccinated they need not attend the classes until January 26, 2022. Colleges in Goa will also be shut until January 26, 2022.
Officials have further stated that the order of imposing the night curfew between 11 PM to 6 AM every day will be issued by the state administration soon. As per reports, the weekly COVID positivity in Goa is close to 5 percent due to which the restrictions have been imposed. The state government will also be enforcing restrictions on indoor activities, he further added.
Schools shut across various states
Due to the increase in the COVID-19 and new Omicron variant cases, many of the state governments including Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Haryana, etc have closed down the schools.
