DUSU Election 2019: Following the successful completion of voting for Delhi University Students’ Union Election 2019; the DUSU 2019 election results have been announced. ABVP candidates for the posts of President, Vice President and Joint Secretary emerged victoriously. The position of General Secretary was grabbed by the panelist from NSUI. DUSU Election voting day was marred with the allegation of EVM malfunctioning and detention of student leaders yesterday. As per the latest update, around 45 ballot boxes have been opened for the counting process. After regaining lead on all the four seats, ABVP is now slowly and steadily extending the lead. Latest DUSU Poll counting trends indicate a health lead margin on over 600 votes for all ABVP candidates in DUSU Election 2019.
Following the brief lead from NSUI on post of General Secretary, ABVP candidate Yogit Rathee has again regain lead for the post. Now NSUI is again leading on all the 4 seats for DUSU Elections 2019.
In a major turn of event, trends at 1PM suggest that ABVP has maintained a healthy lead for on three posts of President, Vice President and Joint Secretary. While NSUI has gained lead on 1 post i.e. for General Secretary post.
Delhi University Students’ Union Election 2019 saw ABVP and NSUI fight it out in a face to face battle. In terms of key candidates, ABVP has fielded Akshit Dahiya for President’s Post, who will go face-to-face against NSUI’s female candidate for President’s post Chetna Tyagi. DUSU Election 2019 Live Update at 12:30 PM: Counting of Votes at Police Lines Community Hall
Counting of Votes is currently underway for DUSU Election 2019. The counting is taking place at the Community Hall of the Police Lines near Delhi’s Kingsway Camp area. Delhi University Chief Election Officer Ashok Prasad is overseeing the counting process at the centre.
Counting of votes for DUSU Polls was delayed by nearly 2 hours today morning, as per reports. Ideally, counting was to commence at 8:30 AM, but was delayed and started at 10 AM after an EVM display started giving error message. Before, starting with the counting process, the error was rectified. Due to this delay, the DUSU Election Results are also likely to be delayed.
As per the initial trends from DU Election counting, RSS affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad was leading on all the four seats.
Amid allegations of EVM tampering, the DUSU 2019 elections witnessed a voter turnout of 39.9%. This is a considerable decline in voter percentage as compared to last year. The voter turnout in the previous DUSU polls was recorded at 44.46%. The DUSU polls 2019 was held for four positions, namely, President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary, Around 52 centres were set up across the University for the students to cast their votes in DUSU 2019 elections. The results for DUSU elections 2019 will be announced today, i.e. 13th September, 2019.
In the DUSU 2019 polls, among the 16 candidates in total, 4 were women. The three major organizations contesting the DUSU 2019 elections are - Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and All India Students' Association (AISA).
In the regular colleges, polling began at 9.30 AM and ended at 1 PM, while in the evening colleges it started at 3 PM and concluded at 7.30 PM. There were about 1.3 lakh eligible voters. Students also cast their votes for their individual college unions. Amid voting at Aryabhatt College, it was tweeted that that one of the EVMs was malfunctioning as when a ballot was pressed for NSUI candidate, the EVM did not light up to indicate registration of vote. An election body official, however, clarified that the votes were being cast but there was some issue with the light that glows. Following this incident, the particular EVM which had registered 152 votes until then, was replaced.
Thursday, 12th September 2019, was a declared holiday for students across the Delhi University as it was polling day. This could be one of the reasons for low voter turnout, as claimed by a few of the student leaders. Around 400 police personnel were deployed in Delhi University’s north campus to prevent any incident of violence.
