According to media reports, the Uttar Pradesh Government will be conducting the final year/ Semester examinations in all the state universities. The state universities are expected to follow the UGC and the HRDMinistry Guidelines released for the universities across the country to conduct the final semester examinations. The Uttar Pradesh State Government has decided to cancel the intermediate (first and second year) examinations instead due to the pandemic.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said that all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate examinations except the final year examinations have been cancelled. Sharma further added that the students from other classes will be promoted based on the internal assessment marks. He also added that the final year exams in the state universities will be completed by September 30, 2020, in the offline or online mode or in both as per the protocols issued for the same.

According to the special provisions for the academic year, the state universities will be giving a second chance to the students who cannot appear for the examinations to be conducted.

Sharma further added that in case any student cannot appear for the final exams a second chance will be given and as per the convenience of the universities another exam will be conducted for such students. The Undergraduate and Postgraduate results will be declared by October 15 to 31, 2020.

The University Grants Commission has earlier released the revised guidelines on July 6, 2020, for the universities to conduct the examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The UGC has made the final year examinations mandatory for the students in all the universities.

The guidelines were however opposed by the teachers association, student bodies, and the states including Punjab, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Rajasthan.

UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain has stated that many of the universities in the country have either conducted the examinations or are in the process of conducting the exams since the UGC has requested all the states to review and conduct the final semester exams by September 30, 2020, with the UGC even providing options for conducting the exams either online, offline or in both.

According to a statement released by the UGC, in response to the guidelines released 640 universities including 120 deemed universities, 229 private universities, 40 central universities and 251 state universities around 454 universities have either conducted the exams or plan to conduct the exams.
