Calicut University, in a bid to promote healthy lifestyle amongst students initiated College Fitness Education Programme (COFE) and even took it under the marking scheme for students.
Sticking to the agenda that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, University is now offering six grace marks each semester to students who undergo fitness education programme.
COFE includes 10 hours of physical training in two six-month long semesters, followed by a fitness performance assessment.
Students will get four marks each semester if they attend eight hours of physical training which includes basic stretching exercises and warm-ups.
In addition they will get two marks per semester for their performance in six activities like sit-ups and pull-ups. Other activities include skipping, hopping on one leg, rope climbing, throwing a cricket ball to 50 metre distance for men and 35 metres for women.
The COFE guidelines were approved by the university academic council on Thursday and will be implemented from the 2014-15 academic year.
