    CAT 2018 – Slot 2: Overall Analysis

    The CAT 2018 Slot 2 Exam was more or less similar to the one that aspirants experienced in the morning slot. The CAT Slot 2 exam was similar to Slot 1 in terms of:

    1. Level of Difficulty
    2. Question Composition
    3. TITA vs MCQs break-up
    4. Distribution of Questions across different topics

    Therefore, the detailed analysis published by Jagranjosh.com also stands true for the afternoon slots as well. Overall the CAT 2018 Slot 1 paper was logical, however Quant section was calculation intensive.

    Candidates targeting a score of 99 percentile should have attempted around 68 to 70 questions with 85% accuracy to get a Raw score of 150 to 155. Similarly, for 95 percentile, candidates must have attempted around 60 questions with 80% accuracy to get a Raw score of 135 – 140.

    CAT 2018: Scaling / Normalization to be minimal

    For CAT 2018, the difficulty level of the Slot 1 and Slot 2 were fairly similar. This means that the scaling or scores or Score Normalization policy will not be such a major factor in CAT 2018 exam. In fact, students might see final scores after the declaration of the results to be quite near to the figures quoted in the Raw score.

    MCQs vs TITA Questions

    The CAT 2018 Slot 2 exam saw the MCQs and TITA to be the same as in the morning slot. Of the total 100 questions, 27 questions were TITA / Type in The Answer type questions; the rest 73 were MCQs. The section-wise break-up for MCQs vs TITA Questions can be found below:

    Quant Section Analysis

    Just like the morning slot, the Quant Section in CAT 2018 Exam for Slot 2 was also calculation intensive with prime focus on arithmetic and formula based questions. CAT 2018 saw questions on the following Key topics Logs & Functions, Maxima and Minima, Algebra, Geometry.

    VARC Section Analysis

    Reading Comprehension Paragraphs were longer as compared to previous years and therefore, a little more time consuming. Para jumbles on the other hand were simple and limited to 4 line sentence arrangement. VARC was also easy and comparably similar to Slot 1.

    DILR Section Analysis

    DILR Section consisted of total 8 sets, of which 4 sets were MCQ based with 16 questions. Of the other 4 sets, two sets were MCQs and two were TITA or non-MCQs. The sets consisting of TITA questions were of moderate difficulty. The MCQs were fairly easy and didn’t consume much time.

    Overall Verdict

    CAT 2018 for Slot 2 paper was pretty similar to that of the morning session. Students who have attempted around 65 – 70 questions with good accuracy should be expecting calls from IIMs and other premier B-schools.

    CAT 2018 Exam Analysis Slot 2: Initial Impressions

    The following were the initial impressions given by experts and students coming out of CAT 2018 test centers after Slot 2 of the exam.

    1. The CAT 2018 Exam pattern and the question mix was similar to that experienced by aspirants in Slot 1
    2. Overall difficulty level of the exam was moderate with few questions in quant being tough
    3. Quantitative Ability was the toughest section
    4. DILR was easlier and less trickly as compared to Slot 1
    5. VARC was manageable with moderate difficulty level
    6. Total Number of non-MCQs were 27 out of 100 questions
