  1. Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries on 18 May 2015 sanctioned proposals for setting up 30 new cold storage chains in the country. The total expected grant-in-aid to be released by the Ministry is 274.9 crore rupees which would attract an investment of 470 crore rupees.
  2. The Union Government on 17 May 2015 allocated 5000 crore rupees for the growth of Department of AYUSH (it comprises Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy). 
  3. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 14 May 2015 allowed Tap And Pay without PIN for transactions up to 2000 rupees. For amounts higher than that, the customer must be given the option of contact payment and would require pin authentication.
  4. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 13 May 2015 gave its approval for 5 percent disinvestment in National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) and 10 percent disinvestment in Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
  5. Rajya Sabha on 13 May 2015 passed the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2014 by voice vote. With this, the bill stands passed by the two houses of Parliament as Lok Sabha passed the bill earlier on 17 December 2014.

  3. India on 18 May 2015 assumed Presidency of the 68th World Health Assembly (WHA) after 19 years. The session was presided by the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda at Geneva.
  4. Aruna Shanbaug, the nurse of Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, died on 18 May 2015. She died after battling with coma for past 42-years following a sexual assault by a hospital ward boy.

  7. United Nation Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) 2015 survey titled Making Growth More Inclusive for Sustainable Development was released on 14 May 2015.
  8. Anurradha Prasad, the Editor-in-Chief of News 24 Channel, on 15 May 2015 was conferred with the Pt. Haridutt Sharma Award for Journalism, Writing and Social Services.
  9. MJ Joseph was on 15 May 2015 appointed as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the Union Ministry of Finance. He succeeded Jawahar Thakur who has been appointed as OSD (Accounting Reforms) in the Office of CGA.

  3. Islamic clothing company East Essence on 14 May 2015 tied up with Snapdeal.  The partnership aimed to set up store on their portal. The company will make its debut in June 2015 by launching an online store at e-commerce marketplace Snapdeal.

  9. Global mobile multi-channel messaging platform mGage on 11 May 2015 acquired Bengaluru-based counterpart Unicel Technologies. However, the deal value was not disclosed by both the companies.
  10. Arun Pudur, the owner and president of software firm Celframe, topped the Wealth-X List of Asia’s wealthiest entrepreneur under the age of 40 with an estimated net worth of 4 billion US dollars.


  1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences on 18 May 2015 signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO) for optimum use of weather information/forecast in the power sector
  2. Union Government on 18 May 2015 launched official website of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog. The website is launched by Dr Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog. The website can be accessed on http://www.Niti.Gov.In.
  3. The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on 15 May 2015 signed a seven-year multi-million dollar contract with the global aviation IT firm SITA.
  4. Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping on 15 May 2015 launched Road Asset Management System (RAMS) for National Highways. The system will compile information on road assets, condition of the pavements and traffic through use of laser technology.


  1. The President of United States (US) Barack Obama on 18 May 2015 banned giving certain kinds of military-style equipment to local police forces. He also called for a broader shift in law enforcement practices across the country.

  3. Former Army Brigadier David Granger on 16 May 2015 was sworn in as the eighth President of Guyana.  He was sworn-in as the President after his A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) party-led coalition won the national elections.
  4. India and Mongolia on 17 May 2015 signed 13 agreements to further enhance bilateral ties and co-operation between the two countries. India also announced to provide one billion US dollar credit to Mongolia.

  2. Russian Maria Sharapova on 17 May 2015 won the women’s singles of Italian Open for the third time.  She defeated Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro by 4-6 7-5 6-1. The Italian Open title was held in Rome, Italy.
  3. Brad Haddin, the Australian wicketkeeper batsman on 17 May 2015 retired from One Day International (ODI) cricket. His final ODI appearance was the seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in World Cup final in Melbourne on 29 March 2015. 
  4. Novak Djokovic of Serbia on 17 May 2015 won his fourth Rome Masters Tennis title. In the summit clash, Djokovic defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland 6-4, 6-3.
