Study Plan for ICSE Class 10 Biology: The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) 2025 board exams are almost five months away, and it is time that students must get ready with all that they need to prepare for the exams. Month 1: Basic Biology

Week 1: Cell Cycle and Division

  • Study the cell cycle: Interphase (G1, S, G2) and Mitotic phase.
  • Learn stages of mitosis.
  • Overview of meiosis and its importance.
  • Differences between mitotic and meiotic divisions.

Week 2: Structure of Chromosome

  • Understand the basic structure of chromosomes, including chromatin, chromatid, gene, DNA structure, and centromere.

Week 3: Mendelian Genetics

  • Study Mendel’s laws of inheritance and perform monohybrid and dihybrid crosses (phenotype and genotype).
  • Key terms: gene, allele, heterozygous, homozygous, dominant, recessive.

Week 4: Sex-linked Inheritance

  • Learn about sex determination and X-linked diseases like haemophilia and colour blindness.

Month 2: Plant Physiology

Week 5: Absorption by Roots

  • Study root structure and the processes of imbibition, osmosis, and diffusion.
  • Learn the mechanism of water absorption and active/passive transport.

Week 6: Ascent of Sap and Water Conduction

  • Explore cohesive and adhesive forces, root pressure, and transpirational pull.
  • Conduct experiments on water conduction.

Week 7: Transpiration

  • Understand transpiration, its significance, and factors affecting the rate.
  • Learn related experiments (Ganong’s potometer, weight loss).

Week 8: Photosynthesis

  • Study the process, structure of chloroplasts, light and dark reactions.
  • Conduct experiments to show the necessity of light, CO2, and chlorophyll.

Month 3: Plant Physiology & Human Anatomy

Week 9: Photosynthesis (Continued)

  • Study adaptations for photosynthesis and the carbon cycle.

Week 10: Chemical Coordination in Plants

  • Learn about plant hormones (Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins, etc.).
  • Study tropic movements like phototropism and geotropism.

Week 11: Circulatory System

  • Study blood components (RBC, WBC, platelets), tissue fluid, lymph.
  • Understand the structure and function of the heart, blood vessels, and the concept of circulation.

Week 10: Excretory System

  • Learn about the excretory organs, kidney structure, and nephron function.

Month 4: Human Anatomy

Week 13: Nervous System

  • Study neuron structure, the central and peripheral nervous systems, and the brain’s major parts.
  • Understand reflex action vs. voluntary action.

Week 14: Sense Organs (Eye and Ear)

  • Learn the structure, functions, and defects of the eye and ear.

Week 15: Endocrine System

Week 18: Population

  • Understand population explosion, reasons, problems, and control measures.

Week 19: Pollution

  • Study types of pollution (air, water, soil, etc.), pollutants, and their effects on the environment.
  • Learn about control measures and climate effects (greenhouse effect, acid rain).

Week 20: Revision and Practice

  • Review key topics from the syllabus.
  • Practice diagrams and solve past exam papers for better understanding.

ICSE Exam Dates 2025 

The ICSE Board Exam 2025 for Class 10 is expected to be held from February 21 to March 28, 2025. The detailed subject-wise timetable will likely be released by December 2024. For practical exams, dates will be provided after the theory exam timetable, and individual schools will schedule practicals based on the board’s guidelines.
