Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) of IIT-Madras have been launched by HRD Minister, MM Pallam Raju, on 28 February 2014 with an aim to provide IT industry-ready and job-ready courses to the course-takers. . The Online courses will commence from 03 March 2014.
This distance-learning course is meant for a large number of participants who can learn and educate through internet, video, text material, problem sets and other means offered in the programme. The students/learners will be able to directly interact as well and ask queries if any, under this course.
More than 4 million technical course students will have privilege to quality online distance education and relevant material, which is created and framed by experts in IITs, along with top-notch company partners such as Nasscom and Google.
The MOOC initiated by IIT—M has given students an opportunity to educate from the highly experienced and some best professors. The course has laid emphasis on foundation skills in IT and engineering proficiency programme as told by the professors associated to it.
To pursue the course the interested candidate will have to visit onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in and sign up for the programme. The programme duration is 10 weeks and the first course set has been created and developed by IIT Madras.
Similarly, IIT Bombay has joined hands with Edx, and the bodies will start their first MOOCs course in July 2014, as per the agreement.
After pursuing the course, the candidates will have to undergo a test that will be held on the lines of GATE in-person at various centres spread across the country.
