Sep 6, 2013 18:11 IST

A request to change the Indian School of Mines of Dhanbad into an Indian Institute of Technology was put forward in the Rajya Sabha by a member of JMM.

Sanjiv Kumar brought up the issue during the Zero hours that approximately 1500 students of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad protested in front of Jantar Mantar and the same number of the students  also protested in the institute demanding to include the 86-year-old ISM in the list of IITs.

He further added that the Jharkhand Assembly has already passed a resolution regarding the same in the year of 2011 but no action has been taken in favor of the same. The Indian School of Mines was established in the 1926 as a Earth Science institute which now become a full fledged College of Engineering containing 17 different Departments.
