NIT Srinagar: Home State Quota vs Other State Quota

The seat allotment at NIT Srinagar consists of 50% seats under the Home State (HS) category and 50% seats under the Other State (OS) category. The Home State category is predominantly reserved for students hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and they have an added edge as they have much lower closing cut-offs than Other States.
Key Quota Differences
Home State (HS) Quota:
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination, i.e., 12th board examination from Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh.
Advantage: Because of reduced competition, students often secure preferredbranches with much higher percentile requirements and ranks. For instance, core streams may be open to candidates with a low rank in JEE Main.
Other State (OS) Quota:
Eligibility: Candidates having the state of eligibility (based on the 12th board state) other than those of J&K and Ladakh.
Advantage: In the context of the OS quota, NIT Srinagar is regarded as a national institution with no added advantage. Since applicants can hail from all parts of India, the selection process becomes tougher. Hence, cut-off percentages are higher.

Key Factors Influencing the NIT Srinagar CSE Cutoff 2026]The NIT Srinagar CSE cut-off 2026 refers to the minimum JEE Mains rank required for admission, depending on the level of difficulty of the exam, limitations of the allocation matrix, candidate population, and the need for computer science. Based on previous cutoffs, it is expected that the cutoff will fall within a range of 35,000 and 40,000 for the general candidates in the OS category.

Department Popularity and Placements:
The CSE department is the most popular among all the departments in NIT Srinagar due to its excellent placements in the technological field and excellent academic curriculum. This has made its cutoff ranking higher than civil engineering and mechanical engineering.

Seat Matrix & Counselling Dynamics:
JoSAA Counselling Rounds: The cutoff marks vary throughout several rounds of counseling by JoSAA. The ranks tend to be closer during early counseling rounds and keep on increasing in subsequent rounds because students opt for other IITs, IIITs, or better branches.
