In a significant move aimed at fostering national pride, discipline, and physical well-being from a young age, the Maharashtra government has announced its decision to implement basic military training for students starting from Class 1 across all schools in the state. The initiative, confirmed by State School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, seeks to cultivate essential values and healthy habits among children.

"A decision has been taken to give basic level military training to students from Class 1," Minister Bhuse stated. "This will help inculcate love for the country, encourage habits like doing physical exercise regularly and discipline that will benefit the students."

Goals of the Initiative

The core objectives behind introducing military training at such an early stage are multifaceted:

  • Encouraging Patriotism: To instill a deep sense of love and pride for the nation in young minds.
  • Fostering Discipline: To help students develop disciplined habits crucial for personal growth and future success.
  • Promoting Physical Fitness: To encourage regular physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle from childhood.
  • Developing Responsibility: To nurture a strong sense of responsibility among students.

Training Methodology and Personnel

The state government plans to leverage the expertise of retired soldiers to conduct this training. This strategic involvement aims to provide students with authentic guidance and inspiration.

  • Involvement of Ex-Servicemen: Approximately 2.5 lakh retired soldiers are expected to be engaged in the program. Their experience will be invaluable in imparting foundational military values and skills.
  • Collaborative Approach: These ex-servicemen will work in conjunction with existing school staff, including sports teachers, members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and established youth organizations like Scouts and Guides, to ensure a comprehensive and well-rounded training experience.

Government Support and Vision

The proposal has received a positive response from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, indicating strong governmental backing for the initiative. The Maharashtra government views this training as an investment in the future, believing it will equip students with a robust foundation of values and habits that will serve them well throughout their lives. This foundational training is expected to contribute significantly to the holistic development of students, preparing them not just for academic success but also for responsible citizenship.
