Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) has announced to turn their campus into a disability-friendly one and try to include things that would help the handicapped students to learn in the campus smoothly. There would be facilities added in the campus to help special students who are presently studying at MICA. The first phase of the said renovation would be completed by January 2015.
For easy access the campus would be made disability-friendly. There would be ramps installed in all the building at the campus, so that students with disability could have an easy access to the ground floors, including all the hostel blocks. The institute has plans to revamp all the walkways and pathways which are currently brick-edge-con-surfaces which create problems for handicapped students in the campus. These walkways would be replaced with RCC finish so that it could be made smoother. This entire manifestation is planned so that the movement around the campus, parking areas and recreational centers could become smoother and easier for the disable students and becomes more accessible.
Keeping the initiative in mind, the president and director of MICA Nagesh Rao said, “We are glad to set up disability-friendly infrastructure at MICA. All the ramps, lifts, resurfacing of walkways and pathways will be positioned as per standard architectural norms. They will be technically and aesthetically sound, and will also enhance ease and access to the buildings for the students with disability."
