Every year, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) organises a centralised online counselling for admission to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 GFTIs. The seats are offered to the candidates on the basis of JEE Main and JEE Advanced Score/Rank. To take admission in Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), students will have to secure a good rank in JEE Main. As per the decision of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the National Testing Agency will conduct JEE Main exam twice a year since 2018. Therefore, students will get two chances to get admission in to their favorite institute. While attending JoSAA counselling, students must consider the previous years’ opening and closing rank of their preferred college. The opening and closing ranks indicate the least and highest rank of students who got admission in the institute. About IIITs:
All IIITs offer education related to IT fields like Computer Science, Electronics and Communication while IIITM offers IT + MBA (B.Tech + MBA) dual degree programs. Apart from IIITs and IIITM, IIITDMs offer bachelors and dual degree courses in IT, Mechanical and Engineering Design. Currently there are 23 IIITs running across India. Out of these 23 IIITs, 5 IIITs are established, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The rest 18 IIITs are based on the N-PPP model (Not for profit Public-Private Partnership). Out of these 23 IIITs, 3 IIITs namely IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Bhopal and IIIT Surat are founded in the year 2017.
