Pledging to incorporate environmental literacy programmes in its campus and in colleges affiliated to it, Pondicherry University has signed the Talloires Declaration on 05 June 2014.
The University Vice-chancellor, Chandra Krishnamurthy, signed the declaration and handed it over to the general secretary of the Association for Promoting Sustainability in Campuses and Communities (APSCC), Nandhivarman, who is also its national level coordinator and facilitator.
Now being a part of the Declaration, the university will instigate a 10-point action plan that entails grooming environmentally responsible citizens and imparting environmental education to all.
A 'sustainability literacy test' will also be launched that will help the faculty members and students hone their skills for solving successfully the global environmental challenges.
Till April 2014, 468 universities in more than 40 countries have signed the declaration including 29 institutions from India.
