The education boards in all the states in India agreed that they would declare the result for senior secondary level (class 12th) by 31 May every year. The State boards are known for late declaration of results, which lead to delays in counselling as well as admissions to technical institutes funded by the Union Government of India.
The suggestion for early result declaration for class 12th was given by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). The idea behind suggestion was to ensure that there is no delay in the process of counselling in those institutes that are funded by the Union Government of India through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
By this decision, there is a huge relief in delay that occurred due to late result declaration, as far as NITs and IITs were concerned. In the past, there had been time lapses and admission delays in Union Government funded technical institutes across the country, apart from the prestigious ones like NITs and IITs.
