Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT-DU) has done it once again in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. The university ranks 5th amongst all Indian universities and is the only one from the state of Odisha in the national top 10 — something to be extremely proud of for the state and a reflection of KIIT's increasing global presence.
Globally, KIIT has achieved a rank in the 501–600 band out of a total of 2,191 universities evaluated globally. For the Indian institutions listed, 128 in all, KIIT's advancement from last year's 601–800 band is a tangible achievement, demonstrating its ongoing chase after academic excellence and innovation. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) ranked as the highest among Indian universities, with KIIT taking the subsequent 5th best ranking in India.
KIIT also gained international accolades this year by becoming the 259th ranked institution globally in 'Academic Excellence' — one of THE's primary benchmark areas. It is assessed through five primary parameters, and KIIT has surpassed several of its peers in Industry Collaboration, Internationalization, and Social Commitment (SDGs), reiterating the institute's all-around and future-oriented thinking in education.
According to Times Higher Education, KIIT’s performance in the 2026 rankings reflects a transformative journey spanning over a decade — from a regional institution to a globally respected university. The ranking underscores how a socially inclusive and innovation-driven university from Odisha has set new benchmarks in global education.
Expressing his delight, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, said,
"Each state aspires to have a university among the global top 500. It's a welcome development that KIIT — within 28 years of existence and 22 years as Deemed to be University — has gained this achievement. This distinction is a moment of huge pride for Odisha and India."
KIIT's consistent rise in international rankings supports its vision of integrating intellectual excellence with social commitment in molding graduates who not only succeed in their careers but also make a positive impact in society.
