A combined competitive examination for recruitment to Grade IV of the Services will be held by the Union Public Service Commission in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation in the Gazette of India.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Indian Economic Service: A Post Graduate degree in Economics/ Applied Economics/ Business Economics/ Econometrics.
- Indian Statistical Service: A Post Graduate degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics.
Age Limit: 21 years to 30 years as on 1 January 2011. Relaxation as per Government of India
Application Fee: Candidates applying online need to pay a reduced fee of Rs 100. Female candidates, SC, ST, PH candidates are exempted from payment of fees either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit card.
Candidates residing in remote areas may apply offline through Common Application Form (Form E) may apply Offline through Common Application Form (Form- E) are required to pay a fee of Rs 200 (Rupees Two Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp.
Selection Procedure: The examination shall be conducted according to the following Plan:
- Written Examination carrying a maximum of 1000 marks in the following subjects.
- Viva Voce of such candidates as may be called by the Commission, carrying a maximum of 200 marks.

Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Written Exam:
- General English (100 marks, 3 hours)
- General Studies (100 marks, 3 hours)
- Statistics- I (100 marks, 3 hours)
- Statistics - II (100 marks, 3 hours)
- Statistics - III (100 marks, 3 hours)
- Statistics- IV (100 marks, 3 hours)
Viva Voce
The candidate will be interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased observers who will have before them a record of his/ her career. The object of the interview is to assess his/ her suitablity for the Service for which he/ she has competed. The interview is intended to supplement the written examination for testing the general and specialised knowledge and abilities of the candidate.
How to Apply
- Candidates are required to apply Online using the link http://upsc.gov.in/
- Candidates, who wish to apply offline, must use the Form supplied with the Information Brochure only. The candidate should also fill up in the relevant places of the Acknowledgement Card, their Application Form Number and the name of the examination.
- The applicants are required to affix the postage stamp of Rs 6 on the Acknowledgement Cards and send the same along with Application Form to UPSC.
- The duly filled in Application Form and the Acknowledgement Card should then be mailed in the special envelope supplied with the Information Brochure. The candidate should also write the name of examination viz. "Indian Economic Service/ Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2011" on the envelope before despatching it to "Contoller of Examination, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi- 110069".
Note: Candidates should note that all Offline Application from remote areas will be received by Post/ Speed Post only and no application will be received by Hand or by Courier.
