UPSC IAS Prelims 2015 : General Studies Paper I : Syllabus

The candidates will find here Syllabus of General Studies Paper I of IAS Prelims Exam.They need to plan and prioritise their preperation strategy accordingly based on the given syllabus.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has notified syllabus of Civil Services Preliminary Examination, 2015 (popularly known as IAS among candidates) in its notification published on 23rd May 2015. Syllabus of General Studies Paper I at Preliminary Stage broadly covers the topics of Indian History, Geography, Economy, Environment, Polity, General Science and Current Affairs. 

Syllabus of General Studies Paper I of IAS Prelims examination has been designed to cover topics relevant to candidate’s life cycle and questions are specially designed in such a manner that person of normal common sense and curiosity would be aware about topic.

Recent decision of Government to make General Studies Paper II (CSAT) qualifying in nature has increased the importance of General Studies Paper I manifold and cross-subsidization through CSAT would not help in clearing Civil Services Prelims anymore. This decision would impact the strategy of candidates as they need to strategically shift their orientation towards General Studies Paper I without compromising preparation of General Studies Paper II (CSAT).

Candidate should plan his systematic study for prelims based on syllabus pattern and prioritize his preparation considering the paper pattern in recent years. UPSC has prioritized few topics in recent years where they especially focus on topics of Geography, Environment and Ecology, Constitution and India’s freedom struggle.

Syllabus of UPSC IAS Prelims General Studies Paper I:

Total Marks – 200                                                       Duration – 2 Hours

 

1. Current events of national and international importance.

2. History of India and Indian National Movement.

3. Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.

4. Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector ini-tiatives, etc.

6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation

7. General Science.
