Preliminary Examination comprises two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both the question papers are of the objective type (multiple choice questions). The question papers are set both in Hindi and English. However, questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level will be tested through passages from English Language only without providing Hindi translation along with the passage in the question paper.
Each paper is of two hours duration. Blind candidates however, are allowed an extra time of twenty minutes at each paper.
The questions in both the papers are of multiple choice, objective type. Paper I comprises General Studies and paper II comprises Civil Services Aptitude Test.
Both papers are compulsory for all candidates. Thus, there is no option for any choice of subjects in the Prelims Exam.
