The candidates applying for IBPS examinations need to first understand the examination pattern and syllabus of the overall examination. This helps them formulate their preparation module and end up successfully cracking the examination. The mains examination is a tricky one that needs sound preparation and thus should be given adequate prominence.

Indian Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the premiere recruitment body that makes recruitment for Clerical, Probationary Officer and Specialist Posts in the participatory organisation across the nation. . The body recruits candidates through Prelims and Mains written examination, followed by personal interview round. Thousands of aspiring candidates apply for these posts every year. Previously, the IBPS conducted only one written examination followed by the personal interview round to select the candidates. But due to huge number of applicants and more people getting associated with banking sector, the body has to declare taking two tiers written test to filter out the best candidates. The candidates, who have filled the application forms for the examination, need to have clear idea about both the written test syllabus and the examination pattern. The IBPS examinations are conducted nationwide through the various examination centres allotted for the examinees to take up the test. Candidates need to score the cut off marks in preliminary examination in order to move to the mains written exam. Thus, they should take the prelims examination very seriously and start preparing for it as soon as they fill the form for the IBPS recruitment.

Strategy for IBPS Mains Exam: The IBPS examination consists of papers related to General Awareness (with special reference to Banking Industry), English language, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and Computer Knowledge. The candidates need to sharpen their edges in these subjects to perform well in the examination. The mains examination is tougher in terms of questions difficulty from the prelims and thus the candidates need to spend more time to understand the question. They should find out the weak areas and start working on the same. . Regular habit of reading and writing helps immensely in solving questions of the English language section. Undergoing various tricks and methods available in different online and offline preparatory guidebooks, can help the candidates immensely in the quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning paper.

Starts preparation for Main exam immediately: The candidates should not wait for the prelims to get over, to start preparation for Mains examination. Instead they should divide their time of preparation into preparing for both the examination just after they fill their application forms for the examination. In the mains examination the marks obtained by the candidate matters the most and thus they should avoid giving any wrong answers, which can result in negative marking. This could take down the score of the candidates and prevent them to enter the personal interview round. It is advisable to the candidates to attempt those questions in which they are fully confident in and do not waste their valuable time on solving a question in which they are stuck in the examination.

Difference between Mains and Prelims exams of IBPS: Prelims and Mains written examinations conducted by the IBPS are different in quite a few aspects. They differ in the number of questions, difficulty level of questions, number of papers and time associated with the papers. The prelims examination is off qualifying nature in which the candidates need to score the cut off marks to move to the mains examination. The marks of the prelims examination doesn’t get counted while making the final list, while the marks of the mains examination is considered after the personal interview round, in case there is a tie between the candidates. Hence, there always remains a scope to have an upper hand in the mains examination by solving more questions correctly.
