Amitabh Kant appointed as CEO of NITI Aayog

Kant will take over the office of CEO in March 2016, when he retires from service.

Amitabh Kant was on 7 January 2016 appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Kant will take over the office of CEO in March 2016, when he retires from service.

On 1 January 2016, Kant was given the additional charge of the CEO of NITI Aayog following the completion of tenure of previous CEO Sindhushree Khullar on 31 December 2015.

About Amitabh Kant
• He is a 1980 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.
• Kant is currently serving as the Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion in the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
• He has also served as the CEO of India’s largest industrial infrastructure project the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation.
• He has also been steering the Union Government’s two major campaigns to attract investments and create jobs – Make In India and Start Up India.
