Andhra Pradesh Government on 1 November 2011 launched one rupee a kilo rice scheme in the state. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy launched the scheme at a special programme held in Hyderabad on the occasion of the 56th State Formation Day.
The scheme would benefit about 7.50 crore people in the state. With the new initiative, the subsidy burden over the state Government will go up by 600 crore rupees to a total of 2600 crore rupees.
