Barclays, the British banking giant, appointed Antony Jenkins as its new Group Chief Executive on 30 August 2012. Jenkins replaced Barclays’ former chief executive officer Bob Diamond who stepped down following the interest rate manipulation scandal.
Jenkins currently leads Barclays Retail and Business Banking (RBB) business. He has been a member of the Group Executive Committee of Barclays since 2009.
The US and the UK authorities had slapped a 290-million pound penalty on Barclays to settle the charges of manipulating global benchmark lending rates such as Libor, and Euribor, which influence many other interest rates.
