India's second largest tyre maker Apollo Tyres on 21 August 2013 announced a tie-up with Manchester United to become its official tyre partner in UK and India.
The tie-up with Manchester United will help Apollo produce football based play zones constructed from used tyres. These rubber-based pitches will be based by young people from local communities in the UK and India to encourage them to take up soccer as sport. It will encourage healthy lifestyles and develop sporting skills in young people.
A Nielsen survey in 2010 found that 47 percent of India's 1.2 billion population can be described as football fans. This partnership will help Apollo promote its brand and encourage sporting activities among people.
